Love Over Envy: BWWM Pregnancy Romance Novel Page 6
Relief washed over Genevieve when Greta agreed to come over in the dead of night and help her fix the article. Greta seemed equally confused as to how this had happened, adding to her credence in Genevieve’s mind. She swore up and down that she’d sent their boss the corrected article; Genevieve had no reason to doubt her too. If Greta had done this, why would Greta have agreed to help her fix the article? Genevieve waited anxiously for Greta to show up at her apartment.
Greta let herself in (she was the only person who had a key to the place.) She gave Genevieve a big hug.
“I can’t believe this happened to you Gen… We’ll stay up all night. You can explain this and it’ll all be fixed! You can’t be worried about this… It’ll go away,” Greta said as she held Genevieve close. She even kissed Genevieve’s forehead in hopes that it would calm her down.
Genevieve trusted Greta. She saw that Greta was right. This could all be fixed. They ordered two servings of Thai food for delivery and then got to work. There was no way they would be done before the sun came up. This type of mistake would take hours and hours to fix. What’s worse, Genevieve knew she wouldn’t be able to call in sick to work the next day. This was her mess to clean up. How could anyone do this to her? Genevieve tried her best to hold back tears. Crying wouldn’t help in a situation like this.
As they worked, Greta used the opportunity to fish for a little more information about Genevieve’s date. She was still hiding the fact that she was furious Genevieve went out while she was home alone. Greta wanted to get a little more insight into what kind of man could have possibly gone out with Genevieve. Greta had guessed that it was Sam but she wanted to be sure, not to mention, she wanted to get a glimpse of this man’s character.
“So… Who did you go out with,” Greta asked as she chowed down on some Pad Thai. Genevieve took a bite out of her spicy Thai dish before she replied. She needed just a moment to think about how to explain this all to her best friend.
Genevieve was also a bit reluctant to answer. She hadn’t really thought about Sam since she ushered him out of her apartment. It couldn’t have been more than one or two hours ago but it felt like ages had passed. But now that she thought back on it, she didn’t love the way things had ended between them. She hadn’t even explained properly to Sam what was going on. Her reaction must have seemed cold to him.
“Oh… You’ll think it’s crazy but I totally went on a date with that white guy from the salsa club,” Genevieve said.
She didn’t think Greta would even remember who that was.
Genevieve couldn’t see it, but Greta’s demeanor had changed once she had her proof. Greta couldn’t wrap her mind around the fact that Genevieve had gone out with Sam. That was the guy she had been ditched for?! Greta was appalled. She had been determined to get a chance with Sam and this whole time her “best friend” Genevieve had secretly gone behind her back to get that chance. She didn’t think Genevieve even deserved it. Greta had come so close to getting a chance with Sam and she had been thwarted. Greta knew she had to double down on her opposition to Genevieve. She just needed to wait for the right time.
Greta tried to save face before Genevieve noticed how the news had soured her. “Wow! I hope you had a good time sweetie. You know how rare it is that white guys will… Well… It’s rare they go for black girls so I guess you’re really lucky,” Greta said.
She flashed a wide smile that successfully camouflaged the shadiness of her comment.
Genevieve was too engrossed in her work to really notice what Greta had said. The two worked diligently with each other for the next four hours. Writing. Editing. Scrapping. Writing. Editing again. By then, the article was brand new and Greta had helped Genevieve craft the perfect apology and explanation to their boss. By the time the article and apology were both sent, Genevieve and Greta were prepared to just pass out on the couch. Exhaustion had set in; both women knew the next day would be even worse. Genevieve invited Greta to stay the night, but she declined the offer.
“I think I’ll just go home… You know… It’s so hard for me to sleep when I’m not in my own bed,” Greta said before she left the apartment.
The two women parted ways. As Greta walked through the streets to her own apartment, she pulled out her phone. Few women would pause to make a phone call in the middle of a dark street. Greta was one of the few beautiful, young and single women who wasn’t afraid of the city after dark. To her, the darkness and the shadows were comforting. She knew there were other people just like her wandering the streets. There were people who didn’t fit in with the blinding light of day time. Greta felt like she belonged in the shadows… Even if she faked fitting in with “regular people”, she knew that she never would. In the late night, she could be her true self.
So before arriving home, Greta took a break from her commute to sit at an empty bus stand. She pulled out her phone and made a phone call, blocking caller ID so the recipient of this phone call would have no idea where it came from. She had a plan that she was putting into motion immediately.
Sam’s phone was ringing off the hook as he sat in the penthouse. He couldn’t sleep after his date. Genevieve was everything… At first. Sam really thought he had found a decent woman in this city full of abusers and crazies. His wheels were still spinning and he couldn’t get over how abruptly the whole thing had ended. Sam wasn’t used to being the guy who was kicked out mere moments after a sexual encounter...
Who could be calling him at such a late hour?
When Sam picked up the phone; he barely recognized the voice. This night was getting more and more bizarre.
“Hey Sam, It’s Genevieve,” Greta lied. She was shaking like a leaf from the cold but she was determined to have her way even if it meant nearly freezing. Impersonating Genevieve wasn’t something that Greta was opposed to if she got the result she wanted.
This phone call would give her the exact information that she needed...
Sam thought something about Genevieve’s voice sounded off. Plus, why was she calling him from a private number? Sam didn’t want to sound overly suspicious, so he said nothing. He was just happy to have Genevieve get in touch with him. Perhaps their abruptly ended night could end on a better note. He hated to sleep with a woman and dash out like that. Sam didn’t see himself as that kind of guy.
“Hey Genevieve… I’m sorry about how tonight ended. Is everything alright?” Sam asked.
Greta continued, “Yes of course! Everything’s fine. It’s all blown over. Actually… I was thinking that we could finish what we started earlier. I’ll come over… I just need to know where exactly I’m going.”
Sam replied with his address. He was eager to do so for a chance to see Genevieve again. When he hung up he was on edge. Sure, it was almost the next day already but he could certainly use a little more of Genevieve before going into work. He’d pulled all nighters for less impressive women in his past. Sam fixed himself up and tried to tidy up the giant bachelor pad before Genevieve arrived. He couldn’t believe how he felt, but his heart was thumping in his chest just from the idea of seeing her. Their date had ended too quickly and this was a chance to fix things.
As Sam waited for a date who would never come, Greta continued on her walk home. Now that she had Sam’s address she was absolutely gleeful and she wanted to celebrate with the one person who always had her back… Erwin. Using that address would come later.
Erwin might have been a pitiful fool but at the very least he was a good time and he knew how to celebrate. Greta texted Erwin to meet her back at her place… She had a grand old time planned for the rest of the evening. Greta knew she wouldn’t bother going into work the next day.
Once Greta arrived at her place, Erwin was sitting on her stoop like a lost puppy.
“Greta! You said you had something to talk about so I came over right away,” Erwin said hopefully. He didn’t seem to mind the fact that Greta had rushed him over just for him to sit in the freezing cold waiting for her.
Greta w
as thrilled to see Erwin. She had a lot to get off her chest. She let them both into her apartment (paid for by her European parents). Once they were in the door, she sat Erwin down with a full glass of Merlot.
“Erwin babes, you know know how you’re my biggest confidante right?” Greta began.
Erwin nodded proudly.
“Great. Well I have a confession to make. My work friend… Genevieve… She’s after this guy that I absolutely adore. No offense darling. You know we’re just friends. But anyways… Genevieve actually went on a date with him and I’m pissed off. I need to put an end to their little relationship. It’s just wrong,” Greta lamented.
Erwin understood Greta perfectly. She was right… She did deserve the best. Erwin just wished he could be the one to give it to her. Ah well. All he had to do was at least acknowledge he was blessed to be near her.
Erwin listened to Greta ramble on for thirty or forty more minutes. He admired how devious she was. Greta spilled her entire plan from start to finish to Erwin. He inched closer and closer to Greta on the couch. By the time Greta finished her rant, Erwin’s hand was rested right on her thigh close to her private areas. Greta looked at him; Erwin was staring at her with his big puppy dog eyes. Fine. I’ll throw you a bone. Greta thought to herself. She leaned over and kissed Erwin on the lips.
Erwin was a patently awful kisser. He opened his mouth wide and stuck his tongue out like a lizard, licking all over Greta’s face. Ugh. She held him close and tried to pull Erwin off her mouth as much as possible. While he could certainly be passionate, Greta wished Erwin were a little bit more skilled. No matter… He didn’t need skill for what she was about to do. Greta lowered herself off the couch on her knees between Erwin’s legs. She could already see his cock straining through his pants. Greta licked her lips greedily. If there was one way she loved to celebrate, it was surprising some lucky man with a nice blowjob.
Greta unzipped Erwin’s pants and was presented with his massive cock. Yes, despite Erwin’s weak mindedness, he still had an impressive member. He was already hard. Just the idea of Greta wrapping her mouth around his cock was enough to rile him up beyond belief. How could a man so thin have such a big dick? Erwin moaned as Greta took him deep into her mouth. She pulled all of Erwin’s eight inches into her mouth and held him deep down her throat. Erwin gasped as Greta deep throated him and he threw his head back. He always reaped so many rewards from visiting Greta.
Greta began to bob her head up and down as she pleasured Erwin. She ran her tongue along the sides of his shaft. Erwin grunted and grabbed onto Greta’s lush red hair as she continued to take him deep into her mouth. Greta nearly choked on Erwin’s length as she pushed him deeper and deeper down her throat. She loved doing this. It was a simple act but from this position on her knees she could get so much control over men. All of them were the same. Once a woman opened her mouth for them, they thought they had all the power. But Greta knew exactly where the power lay and she knew exactly what to do with it.
Greta sucked with all the vigor she could muster until she felt Erwin was close to cumming. Erwin’s cock stiffened in her mouth and before she knew it he let out a little whimper and erupted in her mouth. Greta swallowed every drop of course; even if Erwin’s spunk was a little funky, she knew it would offend him if he didn’t drink every last drop. Once Greta stood up, Erwin shoved his dick back into his pants. He was beyond satisfied. He could always count on Greta to treat him right like this.
Greta curled up next to Erwin on the couch. She wanted to pass out with her head resting in his lap. Giving a blowjob was a lot of work and Greta’s wheels needed to be spinning on more important issues. She needed to tackle her little issue with Genevieve and Sam. Greta didn’t care about either of them; to her Sam was a mere conquest. Genevieve was more like an object standing in the way of that conquest.
Greta had a serious problem with devaluing the lives of people around her. No one in her life knew quite how serious it was and more people were lucky that they never had to find out. Erwin stroked her red hair until she fell asleep.
The rest of the night, Sam stayed up waiting for Genevieve to arrive but she never showed up. He was pissed off and offended. He thought he had clicked with this woman! There was something special about her from that night at the salsa club. But it was getting increasingly clear to Sam that she had just used him. Sam was dejected when the sun rose early that morning. He found Genevieve’s number in his phone and deleted it.
That chapter was now over.
Chapter 8
After a couple days, the entire situation at work had blown over. Genevieve couldn’t seem to get a hold of Sam even after the problem had been solved. Was he really that angry with her about their date ending so abruptly? Genevieve wanted to explain things to him and she wanted another chance to make it up to him. But Sam had gone off the radar and Genevieve had no choice but to deal with it until he returned.
She was at work, moping over the apparent loss of this new man in her life when she began to think this was all some great conspiracy against her. Too many things were going wrong at once and Genevieve was starting to become distrustful. She knew she should really call her sister Nathalie to discuss this, but Genevieve also wanted to become a more open person. She couldn’t just throw all her problems onto her sister; she needed to let new people in. There was no better way than opening up to her new friend Greta. Genevieve was starting to come down hard on herself for not letting anyone in. Nathalie had made a good point about all human interaction, not just interactions involving men. Genevieve was too content to sit and wait. It was important that she build relationships more proactively.
In that vein of thinking, Genevieve called Greta over to her desk after Sam ignored another one of her texts. Greta seemed to have a new man on her arm weekly. Perhaps she would have some insight into men’s behavior that Genevieve had missed. Plus, Genevieve was desperate to share her conspiracy theory with someone and Greta was the only person she even remotely trusted.
“Greta… I think something’s wrong. I think someone is out to get me,” Genevieve whispered. She looked around hoping her boss wouldn’t notice her indulging in some gossipy drivel on the clock. Even if they worked for a decidedly non-serious clickbait site, her boss treated their job like they were BBC journalists and not trashy tabloid writers.
Greta sat next to Genevieve with a concerned look on her face. You had to hand it to her, she was a talented actress.
“What do you mean?” She asked. Her tone betrayed none of her involvement in the “shocking” string of terrible things that were happening to Genevieve. Greta was totally calm. She wasn’t worried at all about Genevieve discovering what she’d been up to.
“Well… This might sound a bit crazy. It’s just that ever since the incident with our boss, I haven’t been able to get in touch with Sam. I just feel like someone is sabotaging me. I know it’s bat shit insane but I’m just worried…” Genevieve began.
Greta nodded. She was playing the part of a concerned friend incredibly well. Now all she needed to do was throw Genevieve off course. She was confident that Genevieve would never suspect her anyways, but she needed to take things to the next level to protect their relationship. Through all of this, Greta didn’t want to lose a friend just yet.
Once Genevieve was done elaborating on the reasons she believed someone was out to get her, Greta planted a suspect in her mind. The suspect was an easy target: unfriendly, competitive and quiet. You never knew what that type of person might be up to.
“You know Gen…” Greta began. She leaned in closer to Genevieve so no one in the office could hear a word she said.
Greta continued, “I’ve seen Jackie Lee being super shady around your computer when you’re on lunch break. Not to mention… I think she has it out for you. She just looks racist. I mean… Look at her beady little eyes. There’s just something suspicious about them.”
Genevieve ignored the embedded racism in Greta’s point. She was too busy wond
ering if Greta could possibly be correct. Could her Korean coworker Jackie possibly be out to get her? She had received quite a few accolades at work recently and Jackie was very goal oriented. Could her jealousy have gone that far? Genevieve couldn’t imagine someone going through such lengths to destroy someone’s life just because of a little jealousy. But Genevieve had to admit that Greta had a point. If Jackie would go this far to take her down at work, Genevieve would have to double down on her efforts to produce better content. Hard, honest work would solve this problem.
Before Genevieve could respond to Greta, her phone rang. Sam had called back the mysterious number on his phone. He suspected it was Genevieve and he figured after ten missed calls, he would give her one last shot…
“Hey, is this Genevieve?” Sam asked.
Genevieve’s heart was beating out of her chest. She left Greta sitting at her desk to converse with Sam in the lobby. She was ecstatic that he’d actually taken the time to call her back.
“Yes… It’s me… I was wondering if we could go out for drinks tonight. I know things ended terribly and that’s my fault. But I think we should talk,” Genevieve said. Unlike the first time, she didn’t hesitate to ask Sam out. Sam was taken aback but was more than happy to go along with what Genevieve asked. He had been determined to give her another chance from the moment he called her back. He was shocked at how forward she was… But happy. She was definitely a woman who he wanted to get to know better.
